I am very proud to be Chair of Labour Friends of Kashmir and am delighted to welcome you to our website.

The Labour Party has a proud history of standing up for the rights of people and groups facing oppression or marginalisation. I see the role of this group – and my role as Chair – as being to ensure that this tradition is upheld with regards to Kashmir. The new leader of our Party, Keir Starmer, has made his commitment to the human rights of Kashmiris clear, following a letter from our group. We will work closely with Keir and others within the Party leadership to ensure that this commitment is upheld.

More broadly, our group plays a vital role in shaping and informing the debate within the Labour Party about the situation in Kashmir. The rights of the people of Kashmir – including their right to self-determination – are at the heart of what our group is about. Human rights abuses are all too common in Kashmir and when these occur, we will speak out loudly to ensure that they are not ignored in either the UK media or within our Party.

I hope you enjoy looking around our website and, if you are a Labour Member committed to human rights and self-determination in Kashmir, we would love for you to get involved with our work.
